The medium isn’t the message

I’m starting to see an amusing trend: people comparing giving advice about social media to giving advice about the telephone. No one gives advice about how to use a telephone or raves about what a game changer a telephone is anymore. None of us can imagine a world without telephones, or even one without mobile phones, for that matter. I think social media is quickly becoming so commonplace that talking about it as an emerging phenomenon is already becoming passé.
What matters most is what you have to say, why you want to say it and how your audience responds to your message, not the medium through which you say it.
